Dearest Friends,

As each of you knows, our lives can change at any instant – and mine did change forever last January 28^th.  I can’t put into words clearly enough my appreciation for the love and care and support and prayers you have sent my way throughout these months.  I know my Bre smiles on each of you for every time you have reached out your hand and your heart to help me make it through another day.

As you might expect, without Bre at my side, I struggle to face the holidays she so loved.  And, despite the dread, I remind myself:  Bre tackled her struggles head-on.  She didn’t shy away from them or let them defeat her.  She faced them squarely and made it through.  And I want to follow her lead.  I want her to be proud of the way I follow her stead. 

I find myself writing to you because I know what would make Bre smile this holiday season.  Bre would smile if she saw us step outside of our usual paths.  She would smile if she saw us find others who aren’t really part of our usual holiday plans and include them.  She would smile if she saw us to do something selfless and courageous.  She would smile if she watched us make someone we didn’t even know feel really special and cared for.  She would smile on us if she saw us really try to make a difference.       

And so I am writing to ask you to join me in honoring Bre’s life this year.  Before getting caught up in the usual holiday hoopla, I’m hoping you can find something you can do in Bre’s honor and commit to doing it.  If you need some ideas, I’ve started a list and included it with this letter.  Our efforts would be a lasting tribute to an amazing young woman, one who I believe was loaned to us to remind us how to live.

If you do join me in this effort, I’d love to know what you do.  If you want to share your experience, please drop me a note in the mail.  For those who are internet-savvy, I’ve also set up a blogspot where you just add your thoughts and your experience… and maybe even a photo of what you do.  You can follow the Breezworks blog at  http://breezworks.blogspot.com/   

With all my heart, I thank you for joining in this tribute.  My wish and prayer this season is that, in so doing, each of us will find within ourselves Bre’s peace of soul, Bre’s delight in life, and Bre’s wisdom.
